There aren't many cannabis companies in the world that boast a rich history like the Green House Seed Co. How not to mention their Strain Hunters documentary series, where famous activist and cannabis genius Franco Loja, together with the founder of Green House, traveled around the world to collect endemic landrace genetics to preserve cannabinoid and terpene profiles that have been lost through decades of cross breeding. "Strain Hunters requires a lot of organization and planning, especially when we go to remote countries where cannabis may still be illegal," Dust Lion from Green House explains. "Our core business, however, remains growing and breeding." Every one who visited Amsterdam has certainly seen, if not even stepped in, one of Green House's coffee shops. The company is not focused solely on the adult-use side of things, but also on medical. That's where their cannabis cultivation project in Thailand comes into play.

From coffee shops to glasshouses
Thailand's gradual shift toward medical cannabis opened the door for Green House Medical, the company's dedicated medical arm, to establish operations there. Initial contact with local partners came during the CBD-only period, but when THC regulations loosened, the timing was right to move forward.
On arrival, the team found an existing glasshouse structure ready for use. This allowed them to start production almost immediately, adding indoor capacity and expanding steadily. Today, the site combines outdoor, greenhouse, and indoor cultivation, all built to meet GACP standards, with GMP processing now coming online to allow for flower exports.
"Thailand's climate allows for relatively simple glasshouse designs: open polycarbonate structures with insect netting, ventilation fans, and natural airflow," Dust explains. "Around 100 people now work there, initially most of them were new to cannabis cultivation. After two years, the team has learned to spot plant issues early, fine-tuning their approach to both soil-grown and coco-based crops."
Keeping control from afar
While the Thai glasshouse runs on straightforward environmental principles, the GACP indoor facility is more tech-heavy. Here, Agrowtek's GCX Plus control system, paired with sensors in each of the 20–25 flower rooms, allows remote monitoring and adjustments to irrigation, climate, and fertigation.
"For me, it's very useful because I'm not always on site," Dust explains. "Everything is online. You can see the data from the rooms, change values, even trigger watering remotely. It also works as an extra layer of safety, especially when you're training a new team."
The irrigation setup uses Agrowtek's BDX and SXC sensors, integrated with the facility's systems despite the limitations of locally available equipment. "It's not always easy to match controllers with what you can buy in Thailand, but Agrowtek adapted everything without issues," he says.

"I've had the privilege of a close relationship with Greenhouse Seed Co and Strainhunters for over a decade and worked on several facilities with them around the world," says Mike Sacomano, co-founder of Agrowtek. "The Thai project was incredible in terms of size and scale and is one of the largest licensed cannabis operations in the world. It speaks to their passion for the plant and commitment to being leaders in the industry."
Matching light to genetics
In their phenotype selections, the team still favors HPS lighting over LEDs, despite running extensive trials. "Some strains love LEDs, others hate them. HPS is more forgiving, and for our style of growing, especially with genetics selected from outdoor plants, it just works better," Dust notes.

With GACP production already in place for two years, GMP processing about to start, and export markets like Germany, the UK, Australia, and the Czech Republic on the horizon, Green House is well set to tackle a cannabis market that is ever changing, although demand continues to go up, especially in Europe. "It's about knowing where the market is going," Dust says. "And making sure that whatever we send out meets the quality standards people expect from Green House."
