Natural State Medicinals of White Hall has been growing ever since it made the first legal sale of cannabis in Arkansas in 2019. But it hasn't been without its growing pains.
The Jefferson County cultivator jumped into an industry that had never been legal in Arkansas before voters approved the use of medical marijuana in 2016, and then it had to navigate strict state regulations.
"There's not a playbook for it," Robert deBin, the company's CEO, said. "There's a million different ways to grow, right? So, honestly, it's a lot of trial and error."
DeBin recently gave Arkansas Business an extensive tour of his maze-like facility in White Hall, which features bright lights in the grow rooms, green lights in some hallways — plants don't heavily absorb green light, so it won't disturb them when their circadian rhythms should be capitalizing from darkness — a kitchen and a vault to store finished products.
