Addressing the 'measuring' needs of German growers

The cannabis space in Germany is bustling with social clubs setting up shop, ready to supply their members with locally grown cannabis. This opens up the opportunity to grow a special product whose quality stands out in the market. It goes without saying that the cultivation game needs to be top-notch. Every cannabis grower knows that to achieve that, the key is control—control over humidity, pH, EC, and all those variables that make the difference between an average crop and a bumper crop.

To address the needs of these new horticultural growers entering the cannabis space, Stelzner has developed the Sativa Kit—a kit of different measuring tools that are the backbone of every cannabis operation worthy of the name.

Tools to measure them all
As is tradition with these kinds of solutions, these measuring tools have made their way from traditional horticulture into cannabis. "At Stelzner, we specialize in developing and manufacturing analyzing systems for horticulture," says Maaike Hamer. The company is active in various horticultural sectors, from food to ornamentals. "We already had customers working in cannabis, and sometimes we'd receive orders from them for our various measuring tools, such as those for soil, air, and humidity." She points out that many aspects of traditional horticulture overlap with cannabis cultivation, making it relatively easy for the company to develop solutions to support the emerging German cannabis space. "That's why we thought: why don't we create a kit to help these new growers achieve bumper crops?"

The Sativa Kit by Stelzner follows plant growth from seed to harvest and is composed of various instruments to monitor all the factors that contribute to successful cannabis cultivation. "We asked professional cultivators for feedback on the key things they need to have full control over their operation." The kit includes a tension meter to check humidity and a PAR meter that (also) provides information about light quality. This has been specifically developed to work with LED lighting, "even though it also works with more classic lights," Maaike points out. Additionally, the kit contains a tool to measure nitrogen levels in the soil, as well as instruments to check EC, soil and water pH, salinity, and CO2 levels. "The last item in the kit is a special magnifying glass for checking trichomes to determine the optimal harvest time."
However, the Sativa Kit isn't monolithic—tools can be removed or added to tailor it to the specific needs of the grower. "A grower may already have some of these tools, so we can simply remove them from the kit. On the other hand, if a grower is interested in some of our other instruments, we can add them to the kit as well."

Made in Germany
Maaike explains that the Sativa Kit is truly plug-and-play and doesn't require a skilled engineer to set up. "We provide a technical guide that helps growers install and use our tools most efficiently. Additionally, our guides contain instructions on large-scale cannabis cultivation. Of course, these aren't highly specific instructions, as each strain has its own peculiarities. We simply point out, for instance, the optimal pH range. However, some cannabis varieties may require a completely different pH range."

All of Stelzner's instruments, including those in the Sativa Kit – except for the CO2 meter and magnifiers which are third party, are entirely made Germany. "It's a sign of quality," Maaike explains. "Additionally, we also repair these instruments if anything goes wrong or breaks. Growers can just give us a call, and we'll assist them directly in fixing any issues they may have with our tools."
