Cyberjaya University, located in Malaysia's Silicon Valley, recently inaugurated its Hemp Science Center (HSC).
The new facility, the first of its kind in the country, marks a notable step in the global movement toward sustainable and innovative uses of hemp in a country that has historically been very harsh on the plant and its users.
The Hemp Science Center was designed to stimulate research and industrial applications of hemp, focusing on areas such as natural fibers, advanced materials, wellness and sustainable agricultural practices.
It will act as a collaborative hub that brings together academics, business leaders and policy makers. The establishment of the center coincided with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cyberjaya University and the Malaysia Hemptech Industrial Research Association (MHIRA), cementing a partnership aimed at positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in the industrial hemp sector.
