Acreage Holdings executive Kate Ols was telling a Beacon Journal reporter about her work in Ohio's marijuana industry when she suddenly had to take a break from the phone conversation.
"My cows are in the road," she explained.
Ols, executive vice president of the Midwest and Northeast regions for Acreage, secured the cows and then talked about her recent move from suburban Akron to more rural Medina, where she sometimes watches over the cows and pulls tractors on the weekends with her partner.
Her choice of a somewhat pastoral lifestyle provides a juxtaposition to busier times in her life. One of those times was in late 2015 and early 2016, when she was laboring over documents for real estate, security plans, and standard operating procedures to create potential new Ohio marijuana businesses. Those later-established and -licensed businesses, Greenleaf Gardens, Greenleaf Therapeutics, and Greenleaf Apothecaries, have since been acquired by Acreage, and Acreage is in turn now part of a larger business, Canopy USA.
