US Congress makes no progress on reforming banking legislation before end of year

The U.S. Cannabis Council's David Culver, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs, released the following statement after Congress did not include the SAFE Banking Act, or any other cannabis reforms, in the continuing resolution made public last night:

"Another session of Congress is coming to a close with no progress made on federal cannabis reform. Not even the popular and bipartisan SAFE Banking Act was able to advance. It's an understatement to say we're disappointed by the 118th Congress.

"While cannabis reform came up empty on Capitol Hill, it hasn't slowed the tectonic shift in American politics in favor of legalization. President-elect Donald Trump repeatedly endorsed cannabis reform on the campaign trail, and he has nominated prominent reformers to his cabinet.

"With a supportive president, the pending reclassification to Schedule III, and strong support from key Congressional Republicans, we are hopeful that we can break the logjam and make significant progress toward our goal of federal legalization and the protection of public safety that comes with it."
