United Food and Commercial Workers Local 360 has announced that its 'Cannabis Workers Rising' campaign has prevailed at another dispensary in New Jersey. Workers at the Plantabis drive-thru dispensary in Rahway, NJ have voted to enter the new year as members of UFCW Local 360.
"Organizing is the best defense against today's anti-worker movements," said Hugh Giordano, UFCW Local 360's director of organizing. "There are those who seek to strip workers of their rights, reducing employee opportunities, weakening families, and damaging entire communities. We won't stand for that and we urge employers and employees to join us in ensuring the long-term success of our marijuana industry, for all."
On its website, Plantabis touts its "belief that community is at the heart of our success," as well as its determination to "stand up for what's right." A minority and woman-owned company, the company also promotes its commitment to "fostering a positive impact beyond our dispensary doors."
"As we close out 2024, we're more energized and determined than ever," said Sam Ferraino, Jr., UFCW Local 360 president. "The need in New Jersey's cannabis industry for strong union leadership is great and will only grow in the foreseeable future. More and more people are coming to that same realization as outside influences continue to peddle their anti-worker nonsense. Local 360 has the expertise, the track record and the resources to push back, which is why our organizing momentum continues to build."
