A look at Malta's market three years after legalization

Three years after the setting up of the Authority for Responsible Use of Cannabis, ARUC, eleven associations that cultivate and handle regulated distribution of cannabis for recreational use are up and running in Malta. TVMNews is informed that ARUC is scrutinizing some fifteen presently pending applications.

ARUC official Mark Vella, who is responsible for enforcement and quality, explained the cultivation process which includes tests to ensure the cannabis is in line with ARUC directives. Vella pointed out that cannabis is cultivated at sites with a certain temperature, humidity, and controlled lighting.

Said Mr. Vella, "Everyone involved in this process has to follow certain rules, including hand washing and wearing special outfits to avoid contamination of the plants. These measures are taken to avoid contamination of the final product. A level of hygiene has obviously to be maintained, which is why these measures are necessary."
