US (SC): Defunct dispensary purchased products from other states, court document says

The owners of a now-shuttered Surfside Beach dispensary purchased large amounts of marijuana from other states before repackaging it for sale as legal South Carolina products, newly filed court documents allege.

In October, the town council voted unanimously to revoke Delta Dispensary's business license following the arrests of Jason and Sabrena Papotto on two charges each of distribution of marijuana and distribution of marijuana in proximity to a school or park.

Surfside police said the arrests culminated a three-month investigation focusing on the sale of "unregulated and untested substances that were presented as hemp."

Jason Papotto defended himself in front of Surfside Beach's town council during an Oct. 10 hearing where his business license was revoked. "These folks know the character of our family," Jason said. "We're not out here to hurt nobody. We have the least shady store in this whole town. That's the truth about it."
