A lot of mischief avoided with 9 LED traps per hectare

"It is an unstoppable trend to close the cupboard with chemical crop protection for good. The pressure is coming from action groups, mass retailers, but above all from the industry itself. What seemed almost unfeasible in 2000 is now a reality on many farms. The switch to control of pests by predators, such as predatory mites and ichneumon wasps, is a feat of Dutch innovation", the team with Ledsprotect says, adding they are also doing their bit.

Scouting
Preventing a pest starts with good scouting. When you observe the first intruders, you can take measures to prevent a pest. This is where Ledsprotect can play an important role.

The Ledsprotect trap catches almost all insects that are active at night. Turkish moth, carnation leaf roller, banana moth, cabbage moth, tuta, crane flies, duponchelia, just to name a few pests. Because the captured insects drown in water and stay afloat, they are quite easy to identify. The grower can also quickly see the severity of the infestation by the number of insects caught.

Control
Apart from scouting, the Ledsprotect trap is also a good tool to control pests. With a radius of 15 meters, a Ledsprotect trap captures a large proportion of the pest insects. In practice, it means a grower can prevent a lot of mischief with about 9 traps per hectare.

The fact that the trap only has a range of 15 meters is not so much due to the amount of UV light, but much more to the poor eyes of night insects. They have facet eyes that cannot focus like human eyes. They orient themselves mainly with the scent organs on their antennae. With these, males detect females, mate, and die. "Reproduction is their only goal and that is precisely what we want to prevent," says the insect.

Operation
The insects are lured with UV light and drown in the water tank. The lens is designed so that the light is emitted well to the side. The plastic used is 100% permeable to the chosen UV wavelength. The fluorescent yellow tank lights up hell under UV light. It increases the attractiveness of the trap. A light-dark switch switches the lamp on when it gets dark and switches it off again in the morning. This prevents pollinators and predators from being caught.

The Ledsprotect trap can be connected to the 230V mains using an adapter. If 230V is not available everywhere in the greenhouse, a low-voltage network of 12V or 24V can also be used. "The advantage of a low-voltage network is that you don't have to comply with extensive inspection regulations."

LedsProtect's latest UV light trap model is unmissable at night.

Warranty
The Ledssprotect trap comes with a full two-year warranty. If there are malfunctions within that time, they will be fixed free of charge.
