With cannabis dispensaries stretching from Northeast Alternatives at 999 William S. Canning Blvd. bordering Tiverton, to Stories Cannabis at 160 Hartwell St. in the city's industrial middle, to the north with Aura Cannabis at 320 Airport Road, the retail market for marijuana has blossomed.
Fall River's dispensaries appeal to customers with exclusive products, in-house seed-to-weed production methods, and hospitality efforts. Menus offer hundreds of marijuana flower strains, some staple items to keep pace with competitors, and other cannabinoid products, like tinctures, vapes, edibles and even beverages. Smiling "bud-tenders" maneuver sales over counters, using their expertise to both accommodate veteran pot smokers and lead the uninitiated through their first purchase in shops that one cannabis retailer called "one part liquor store, and one part Apple Store."
As of April, the Cannabis Control Commission, which oversees licensure for cannabis sales, reported $422.5 million in adult-use recreational sales revenue for Massachusetts, with 2023 bringing in $1.56 billion in adult-use sales. Since 2018, state and local taxes on marijuana sales have generated $1.1 billion.
