Ukraine has begun registering pharmacies in the electronic system for monitoring the circulation of medical cannabis (ESORC), marking a significant step toward the legal use of cannabis-based medicines. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health Maria Karchevych during a briefing.
The system recently went live, and the first pharmacy, located in Cherkasy, has already registered. ESORC tracks all operations involving medical cannabis, from cultivation to dispensing to patients, with transactions recorded no later than the day after they occur.
Importantly, cannabis-based medicines can only be obtained with an electronic prescription, which can be issued by either a family doctor or a specialist. Through this e-prescription, patients can receive ready-made medications as well as those prepared directly at pharmacies.
The government has also introduced changes to licensing regulations, covering all stages of medical cannabis circulation—from import or cultivation to sales.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health has approved a list of conditions for which cannabis-based medications may be prescribed. The medicines will be available in forms such as drops, capsules, gels, and pastes.
