NZ: New export rules ‘huge’ for medical cannabis farm

A Marlborough medical cannabis producer says recent amendments to export regulations have already been a "game-changer" for the industry in New Zealand.

In late July, the Government made changes to the Misuse of Drugs (Medicinal Cannabis) Regulations that meant growers only had to meet the quality standards in the countries they were exporting to, rather than New Zealand's strict standards.

Tom Forrest, a co-founder and cultivation director at Puro, said the company had received more than $1 million in new export orders since the changes came into effect little over a month ago.

"It's huge – it's a game-changer for our sector," he said. "It reduces a lot of regulatory barriers in that products needed two sets of minimum quality demands."
