National Unity Party president and Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte expressed hope that the United Nations' (UN) recognition of the medical value of cannabis oil will prompt the Senate to swiftly pass the proposed medical cannabis bill, which has been approved by the House of Representatives.
In addition to the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) declaration, Villafuerte is also hoping that senators would also consider that medical cannabis has already been legalized in 60 countries and its medicinal value has been affirmed in medical journals from various prominent global institutions.
"With the House's third and final approval of HB 10439 in the previous legislative session, what we only need now is for our senators to act on their counterpart measure, in the hope that we can come up with an enrolled bill for submission to, and enactment into law by, President Marcos this third and final session of the 19th Congress," Villafuerte said.
Villafuerte, principal author of HB 10439, is a longtime advocate of the legalization of cannabidiol (CBD) strictly for medical purposes only.
