US (NJ): St. Anthony grad to cultivate craft cannabis in Jersey City

The Planning Board unanimously voted Tuesday night to allow Eli Terry, a 2015 St. Anthony High School graduate, to move forward with converting the former Vision Tours Corporation charter bus warehouse at 77 Forest St. into what's believed to be the city's second-ever Class 1 cannabis cultivation site.

"It's a small operation, but it's unique," Terry told the board. "We're going to be developing craft cannabis and just exploring the market because the market doesn't have a lot of craft, and just providing a new cultivator, new face and brand for Jersey City."

He said "craft" cannabis is created when someone "really takes their time and then uses all of the proper ingredients."

"Instead of skipping steps for yield, we want the full quality of the plant, so we get the best tasting and just an experience — being able to differentiate between us and a lot of cultivators," Terry added.

Officials, at the meeting, touted the Jersey City native's venture as one of, if not the first licensed as a Class 1 cultivator in Jersey City. The Division of Commerce couldn't immediately confirm. However, other reports suggest it's the second and that Tia Planta was the first in Jersey City.

"I've been cultivating for about six years underground and now I'm turning over the leaf to do everything legally," he added.

Terry told the Jersey City Times that he hopes construction on his building begins this fall and expects his company, Glue Lagoon Farms, to ship out its first batch by the second quarter of next year.
