Germany: Up to 25 cities want to launch adult-use cannabis pilots

Buying cannabis products in pharmacies: This could become a reality in Wiesbaden. The state capital has now officially applied for such a pilot project. However, anyone already dreaming of weed tourism in Wiesbaden is likely to be disappointed.

Wiesbaden wants to test the sale of cannabis in pharmacies in a pilot project. Milena Löbcke (Left Party), head of the health department, signed a letter of intent to this effect in Wiesbaden on Thursday, as the city announced.

"The establishment of a second pillar alongside private cultivation and cultivation associations is essential in order to marginalize the black market and achieve the goals of successful child, youth and health protection," Löbcke emphasized.

Nationwide model project in planning
Accordingly, the city wants to cooperate with the 'Cannabis Research Germany' association. The association will soon apply for a nationwide pilot project at federal level under the scientific supervision of the Center for Interdisciplinary Addiction Research Hamburg.

The aim is to test which works better: sale via pharmacies or via stores. This is exactly what the German government has planned. The research proposal is to be submitted to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture in October.

A total of up to 25 cities want to take part in the project - in addition to Wiesbaden, other cities from the Rhine-Main region and from all over Germany. There are various options. Wiesbaden would test sales via pharmacies.
