The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors reviewed several options for how the county can issue or not issue cannabis cultivation permits following the state’s upcoming halting of new provisional permits by January 1, 2024.
However, Humboldt County Planning and Building Director John Ford went over the current landscape of cannabis cultivation permitting in Humboldt County and answered questions from supervisors about moving forward, especially amid the controversial Measure A, a ballot initiative proponents say will place much-needed environmental safeguards on cannabis farms and critics say will obliterate the legal market if passed next year.
“Originally, the state was not going to renew any provisional licenses in 2024. I checked the website recently, and they changed that. Large licenses are farms with over an acre of outdoor space or 22,000 square feet of mixed light or indoor space. Ford said the county is only processing five applications that met those standards.
