Participate in the live Plant Empowerment workshop in Canada

After the success of the two-day workshop in Canada in May 2022 – which was attended by more than 100 growers, investors, and other horticulture professionals – Plant Empowerment, in cooperation with its partners and the Dutch diplomatic network in Canada, has decided to host another multi-day Plant Empowerment course in Canada in March 2023.

The demand for a second live event was so overwhelming that the decision to organize this event again was quickly made. This time the workshop will be held in the popular Niagara Falls area. Growers and other horticultural professionals are welcome to join the workshop, which focuses on sharing knowledge on the philosophy and how to put this knowledge into practice. A team of six Plant Empowerment specialists will be addressing insights on various facets such as climate, plant balances, lighting, nutrition, plant Health, and Pest Management.

What is Plant Empowerment?
The Plant Empowerment philosophy helps growers worldwide to grow more sustainably and achieve higher yields. It takes the natural behavior and the growing power of plants as its starting point. The principles revolve around cultivating greenhouse crops sustainably by supporting each plant’s natural balances. This unique data-driven way of thinking facilitates higher yields and better crop quality for growers while also supporting more efficient use of valuable resources such as water, energy, and nutrients. As a result, the Plant Empowerment philosophy provides a roadmap to both profitable and environmentally friendly horticulture.

Training content and program
The live workshop is a follow-up to the two workshops Plant Empowerment organized last year in Leamington and B.C. This year’s workshop is being offered in two formats to suit different knowledge levels:

1. The three-day course (Tuesday, March 28 until Thursday, March 30) consists of a basic and advanced part and is being organized for growers and horticulture professionals who did not attend last year’s course, as well as for growers who are new to the Plant Empowerment principles. The three-day basic & advanced course kicks off on Tuesday, March 28, with the first day focussing on the introduction and further explanation of the basic principles of Plant Empowerment. The course will be followed up by the advanced part of the workshop.

2. The two-day advanced course (Wednesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 30) will cover a comprehensive program about the principles of Plant Empowerment. Participants can heighten their understanding thanks to various in-depth knowledge sessions about philosophy and how to apply the philosophy in practice. This course is intended for attendees of last year’s course, as well as for other growers and horticulture professionals who already have basic knowledge of or execute the Plant Empowerment principles. This two-day advanced part of the workshop kicks off on Wednesday, March 29.

There will be a combination of theoretical and practical sessions alternately led by the Plant Empowerment partners and co-author (Peter van Weel) of the book on Plant Empowerment. New insights around the Plant Empowerment theory are shared in the areas of climate, plant balances, lighting, nutrition, plant health, pest management, etc.

Practical examples will be discussed in detail, for example, the approach of the BASF project, where the implementation team achieved 121 kg. Furthermore, the consults will share the latest updates on the Plant Empowerment principles. Participants can choose multiple sessions depending on their own interests. This varies from a dedicated session for tomato growers on data-driven growing to a session for strawberry growers about how to deal with mildew.
