US (NM): Preparing cannabis growers for the new industry

Adult-use cannabis is a brand-new industry in New Mexico, and business is booming. So how do you get involved? SeedCrest, a local business, is trying to prepare New Mexicans with the educational tools it takes to get started.

“We’re looking to create the infrastructure here in New Mexico that works for New Mexicans so that our folks can have the opportunities so that the labor shortages can be resolved in a way that is more meaningful than just finding worker bees for these projects,” said Shanon Jaramillo, founder of SeedCrest. 

Now they are branching out – diving into things you need to know to grow or care for plants at home or at a grow facility. Brian Alfaro, a plant biologist, is leading the charge for SeedCrest. He says growing cannabis does require special attention and maintenance.

“For example, growing cabbage and growing cannabis, the lighting will be different, the structural considerations as far as supporting the plant will be different,” said Alfaro.
