The state of South Dakota is looking for a partner to help it run a medical cannabis program.
A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued by the South Dakota Department of Health seeking a vendor to manage and administer a medical cannabis regulatory infrastructure that will include a statewide patient registry and verification and licensing systems.
“This is just one of many steps our department will take to fulfill its commitment of implementing a responsible medical cannabis program that will ensure both patient and public safety,” Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon said in a news release Monday..
According to the department, the patient verification system will allow South Dakota law enforcement officials to accurately identify medical cannabis patients and caregivers they may encounter and a licensing system will be used to accept applications for medical cannabis establishments.
