Biobest Canada announced that PMRA has granted the label expansion of Asperello T34 Biocontrol. Until now Asperello was only approved for use in greenhouse ornamentals, in Canada.
Asperello T34 Biocontrol contains the fungus Trichoderma asperellum strain T34. It can be applied preventatively by growers to colonize the roots of the crop, limiting space and nutrients for detrimental soilborne fungi. Asperello triggers the plant’s natural defense mechanisms, parasitizes and actively kills pathogens, and supports healthy root growth.
“It has been a long wait for us and our growers. The more we were hearing about the successes and results other people experienced when using Asperello in other markets, the tougher it was to remain patient. Finally, the wait is over!” says Veronica Cervantes, Product Manager of Biopesticides at Biobest North America.
Canadian customers can now use Asperello on protected cannabis, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, leafy greens and other selected edible crops against Fusarium, Pythium and Phytophthora. Approved applications are dips, soil incorporation, chemigation and drenches. In cucurbits it can also be applied through foliar application against Didymella.
Biobest and the producer, Biocontrol Technologies, are committed to explore the full potential of Asperello.
