Growing Summit, Kelowna

"We put a special focus on novel and cutting-edge cultivation methods"

The Growing Summit in Kelowna, 31st March – 1st April, has something special, as it is focused on the cultivation and the plant, rather than the usual branding, marketing, and financial focus on many cannabis conferences. "This is a cannabis cultivation focused conference,” Stephanie Ostrander with C45 Association says. “We put a special focus on novel and cutting-edge cultivation methods that commercial cannabis growers can use to thrive.” At the same time, sharing best practices is just the end result of something that the cannabis industry has needed since its inception. “An important focus of the conference is networking,” Stephanie points out. “We recognize this is how craft growers will succeed in this corporatized industry by working together and building buying power, sharing the cost of services such as QA, accounting, security, and information sharing for success.”

Focus on cultivation
Thus, many speakers will step onto the stage to explore the different facets of cannabis growing. “For instance, Dan Sutton from Tantalus Labs and Brittany Anderson from Cannabis Conservancy will join us as keynote speakers on the first day,” Stephanie points out. “Then, former policy advisor with Health Canada David Brown  will give a talk about demystifying micro cannabis and cannabis nursery licenses. On top of this, there will also be panels where different experts will discuss fertilizers and nutrients, and genetics and seeds, for instance.”

The Growing Summit in Kelowna aims to provide valuable knowledge in successfully growing cannabis under compliance with different methods. “Micro licensees and applicants, nursery and outdoor growers, as well as equipment suppliers and extraction companies are welcome to join us to advance the knowledge of this industry and to build a community that will project this sector towards the future.”

Additionally, Stephanie takes care to remark that one of the most important concepts behind such a conference is to value diversity in the industry, and to acknowledge all those legacy growers that paved the way for the current cannabis industry. “In order to fully express the potential of this sector, we need to value diversity,” Stephanie says. “Women are way underrepresented in this sector, and I’m not only referring to the lack of women on executive boards, but also with regards to the full extent of the cannabis supply chain. It is of the utmost importance to bring everyone to the table and use our diverse background to push this sector forward. This is why we took care to select an equal number of men and women among the speakers, to give a good example to the industry and show that this is necessary to make the cannabis industry an equal sector.”

The Growing Summit can also be experienced through a live stream, so that interested growers can take part in it from anywhere without necessarily going to Canada. "It is possible to purchase a ticket to access the livestream, or also to watch the edited content at a later date of your choice."
