US (ME): Medical marijuana facility goes up in flames

A two-alarm blaze barreled through a medical marijuana grow facility and caregiver business on Route 236 Monday night, as responding fire departments struggled with access and water supply.

The billowing smoke drew crowds near 495 Harold Dow Highway where Sweet Dirt Inc. operates a state-licensed caregiving business “growing small batch, artisan, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association-certified clean cannabis,” according to its website.

The structure was unoccupied when the fire started, and no one was injured.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the grower family recover.
